Step39 is a limited company set up in 2008 by Chris Meacock, Jonty Young, Phil Payne and Hugh Stratford-Michaels as a vehicle to work on innovative products and a dynamic new approach software development and product design.

The company formation was in Q2 2008. The primary purpose of developing software to extend the reach of business systems to mobile phones. The initial focus was on automated communications using SMS and MMS. Transposing messages and a re-purposing those messages for different presentation platforms.

The first project was a system which converted a simple SMS or MMS message into a classified advertisement on a web page. The message text, images and movies were routed from the mobile networks to the internet and translated into suitable file type for the web, resized and presented within seconds.

To enable this the first version of MobileIS was developed and implemented. This was a Python implementation and was soon superseded by the Prolog implementation - MobileIS Version 1.0.
We then developed a project which enabled small businesses who wished to use a SMS response messaging to easily sign up online and attach a keyword to our short code 65000 (65000.co.uk) to route SMS messages to their email or mobile phone.

Our system has been widely used by car dealerships, charities and the NHS. We operated this service exclusively for the NHS and then for Norfolk County Council until the contract finished in 2012. MobileIS never failed in this time.

Step39 have also developed software projects for Aviva, The Princes Trust, The NHS and a tool developed for sports betting professionals and business which hunted down arbitrage opportunities in Soccer betting.

A new truly disruptive project is under way. More news soon.
